Ever felt a sharp pain on the outside of your elbow after lifting something, typing too much, or even just turning a doorknob? You might think it’s nothing, but it could be a sign of something more—Tennis Elbow. And no, you don’t have to play tennis to get it! Let’s uncover what causes this common yet often misunderstood condition, why it hurts so much, and how you can take control of it before it controls you. You may also heard, Sachin Tendulkar was suffering from tennis elbow in last half of his career. Tennis elbow is also called as lateral epicondylitis. You may also, heard of golfer’s elbow. That just affects the inside of the elbow.Tennis elbow is a condition where you feel pain around the outside of the
elbow. It happens when the tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm. Despite its name, it doesn’t just affect tennis players—anyone who performs repeated arm movements, like typing, lifting, or even cooking, can experience it. The pain may start gradually and worsen over time, especially when gripping or lifting objects.

Symptoms

  • Pain or burning on the outer part of the elbow
This pain may start as mild discomfort and gradually intensify, especially with use of the affected arm.
  • Weak grip strength
Everyday tasks like turning a key, shaking hands, or holding a cup may become difficult.
  • Pain worsens with activity
Movements involving lifting, gripping, or twisting the forearm often trigger or increase the pain.
  • Stiffness in the elbow, especially in the morning
The joint may feel tight or less mobile after resting or sleeping.
  • Radiating pain into the forearm and wrist
The discomfort can spread down from the elbow, making it hard to use the full arm comfortably.

In Ayurveda we cannot get an exact term for this, but can be corelated with snayugata vata or sandhivata of koorpara sandhi (elbow joint). Lifting heavy objects, games like tennis, cricket etc, other occupations like painting, carpenter etc. these causes continuous movement of joint causes more stress to the joint and tendons and leads to pain.
